The Human Firewall Is Your Strongest Defence

You can have excellent cybersecurity technology in place.

But sometimes, all it takes is one click.

One convincing phishing email.
One reused password.
One fake login page.
One unexpected attachment.

Cybercriminals know that attacking technology is not always the easiest way into a business.

Sometimes, it is easier to attack the person using it.

This week’s Cyber Tip

Before you click, download, approve or share anything, take a few seconds and ask yourself:

• Was I expecting this?
• Is the sender really who they claim to be?
• Does the link go where I think it does?
• Is someone creating unnecessary urgency?
• Am I being asked for information I would not normally share?

That short pause can prevent a much bigger problem.

Your employees are part of your cybersecurity

Employees are not simply users of your security systems.

They are part of your defence.

Technology can provide powerful layers of protection, but people still make decisions every day about:

• which links to click;
• which attachments to open;
• where to enter passwords;
• whether to approve an MFA request;
• what information to share; and
• when something suspicious should be reported.

That makes cybersecurity awareness an important part of any organisation’s security strategy.

Build better security habits

A strong human firewall does not mean expecting employees to recognise every threat perfectly.

It means giving people the knowledge and confidence to:

• slow down when something seems unusual;
• question unexpected requests;
• report suspicious activity;
• use strong authentication;
• follow safer password practices; and
• understand how their actions affect the organisation.

Cybersecurity works best when technology, awareness and ongoing protection work together.

At Stratus Cloud, that is the approach behind how we think about protecting smaller businesses.

Enterprise Protection. SME Simplicity.
